“You have the power to say – this is not how my story ends.”
-Christine Mason Miller
For over 40 years, Catholic Charities, Diocese of Trenton has helped domestic violence survivors find safety and heal from their trauma. To recover from the effects of being victimized, survivors must feel safe and learn how to reclaim their lives. This is what Providence House does. We treat individuals holistically, addressing all the ways abuse manifests itself. Additionally, all Providence House services are free and confidential, and our safe houses operate 24/7, 365 days a year.
Prior to the pandemic, Providence House typically served 50 residents between two safe houses. In the aftermath of the health crisis, that number jumped threefold at its peak. In all, our staff served 656 residential clients during the past year! We even had to use local hotels because our safe houses were not big enough to hold everyone who came to us. In an average year, PH provides approximately 10,000 nights of shelter. By the end of 2021, the number of nights exceeded 36,400.
Beyond offering shelter, your donations give us the ability to provide so much more to our clients. We provide wraparound services that include: counseling and support groups, legal advocacy and financial education. A program we are particularly proud of is our therapeutic creative arts program for children called PALS. Even though families have refuge when they come to us, they still need to overcome the fear, anxiety and feelings of helplessness. During individual and group therapy, children build resilience, self-esteem and hope through art, music and dance.
Your generosity gives us the opportunity to serve families that need us for safety and survival.
Your gift will have an immediate impact and go directly to Providence House.
The past two years have challenged us – but we never turned
our backs on anyone who came to us – and that’s because of you!
With sincere appreciation,
Marlene Laó-Collins
Executive Director
