This Good Friday, April 3, will mark the 15th annual Stations of the Cross procession, re-creating Jesus’ crucifixion, burial and resurrection. Coordinated each year by Catholic Charities’ El Centro program, the event is supported through the time, efforts and generosity of the city’s parishes and community. “This year’s event has special significance for us because it marks our Quinceanero,” said Roberto Hernandez, El Centro’s director.

This event is open to the public and starts at 10am on Friday, April 3rd in front of Sacred Heart Church on S. Broad Street. Attendees are encouraged to follow behind the procession to its conclusion at Home Avenue in front of St. Stanislaus Church. There is public parking available at Sacred Heart and a bus, courtesy of the Delaware Bus Company, will transport attendees back to their starting point.

“This year’s Stations of the Cross is dedicated to “The Family” because Pope Francis has dedicated this year as the year of the family,” said Hernandez. Auditions for re-enactors have been held and most roles have been assigned. Jesus has yet to be cast but Mary will be portrayed by Ana Fuentes and Fr. Dennis Apoldite, Sacred Heart Church, will offer a blessing at the start of the procession.
