Catholic Charities Employee Takes Time Off to Serve Our Country

MikersonMikerson Luma is a professional role model — he serves as a Life Skills instructor at Beacon House, a residential program run by Catholic Charities for young men who have aged out of foster care. But prior to this position, Luma served in the US Navy and continues to serve in the Naval Reserves. As part of his commitment to the Reserves, Luma shipped out this week for a 20-day training mission. His demonstration of strength, courage and commitment to a cause is just another valuable lesson Luma has shared with those he mentors at Beacon House.

According to his supervisor, Robyn Joannou, Luma is a positive role model for the residents of Beacon House. “I’ve known Mikerson, or Mike as we call him, for years, before he came to work at Beacon House and he has always been a community-minded person, willing to help.”

BHAlthough Luma can’t disclose his location and/or orders, the residents and staff of Beacon House are concerned for his safety and eager for him to return. He is also the father of a young daughter who is missing him while he is away serving his country.

Beacon House has already hung a yellow ribbon on its lamp post until his safe return and the same is being done at the administrative headquarters of Catholic Charities, located on West State Street in Trenton.
