Livingston firm is dedicated to helping nonprofits succeed
Catholic Charities, Diocese of Trenton is pleased to honor SobelCo of Livingston as our Corporate Citizen of the Year.
SobelCo is a certified public accounting and consulting firm founded in 1956 that serves with a passion middle-market, family-owned businesses and the nonprofit community.
Community service is a priority for the firm, which organizes 12 roundtables every year of interest to the nonprofit community and holds an annual day of service for its employees to give back to the community. “We swept sand off of three miles of boardwalk after Hurricane Sandy,” said Sally Glick, partner and chief growth strategist.
Staff also holds ongoing fundraising and donation drives virtually every season for people in need. The firm has been a supporter of Catholic Charities for 22 years and the agency’s auditor for many years.
“It makes us feel good to help those who do good,” said Sally. “We are 100 percent committed to the nonprofit community.”
SobelCo member Michael LaForge agreed: “We teach even the younger staff here that we all have a duty to help with our communities, whether it is leading a fundraising event, sitting on a nonprofit board or having a complete understanding of helping those in need. We try to practice what we preach. And we always say to ourselves: What more can we do, what more can we give?”
The pandemic only underscored the importance for SobelCo and others to support nonprofits, said Alan Sobel, a managing member of the firm. “As people were hurting financially, nonprofits were hurting because they were not able to raise the money they once did. So nonprofits had to become incredibly creative in filling that void,” Sobel said.
SobelCo supports Catholic Charities because of the myriad ways they serve people in need, he added.
“Catholic Charities is an amazing organization primarily because of the breadth of services that they provide, everything from feeding the homeless to providing health services,” Sobel said. “We believe so much in the mission of Catholic Charities, we also are the accountants for Metuchen’s and Newark’s Catholic Charities as well.”
“It’s truly satisfying to know that we are an important part of the social services that Catholic Charities offers to everyone. Because it’s a local, community-focused nonprofit, you can see the results within our community,” LaForge agreed.
