mental health + recovery
In the past, the subject of mental illness was surrounded with mystery, fear and embarrassment. Today, there is better understanding and effective treatments. The milder conditions of mental illness are very common. One-fifth of Americans suffer from a mental disorder during any given year. Severe mental illness is less common, accounting for three percent of the population. Most people experiencing a mental disorder continue to function in their daily lives, although with varying success.
Our programs supply education, family support groups, respite care, advocacy, and service linkage to families of the person experiencing a mental illness. From minor to severe conditions, Catholic Charities believes in working as a partnership with a person experiencing a mental illness to achieve their goals of successful community living, recovery, and self-management of their illness and life.
